FRC - FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology or FIRSt is an organization that operates annual robotics showcases and competitions for all grade levels. FRC or FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION is designed to inspire high school kids to become engineers by giving them real world experience deigning, building, programming, and operating a robot in competitive play. This isn’t the robot wars you’ve probably seen on television before, frc follows a three on three team format. Every year a theme is chosen and a “game” is created around that theme. “GAME” refers to the setup of the field and how points are scored. Teams build a robot to score the most points for the game. in the “game”, Teams are randomly assigned together. In one match two teams could be allies and the next match combatants. The goal is for a three team “ALLIANCE” to score the most points within the allotted time (about 3 minutes). At the end of about 70-80 rounds of play, the top 8 ranked teams pick two other teams to join their alliance to face other alliances in the final rounds.
IAF cyber phoenix team 5527 has been selected as alliance partners in the finals several times. our team has also been in the final 8 teams as alliance captains.

FTC - FIRST TECH CHALLENGE
REC - ROBOTICS EDUCATION and COMPETITION Foundation AERIAL DRONE Competition
in 2025, IAF plans to start a competitive drone team. Through the rec foundation, we hope to compete in their aerial drone competition. more information about this as it becomes available.
The FIRST TECh ChALLENGE is the middle school level robotics competition through the FIRST organization. This program was excellent at preparing middle schoolers for the rigor of high school robotics. IAF used to compete in the FTC, but unfortunately this became no longer viable in 2023 and we disbanded the team.
ELEMENTARY school ROBOTICS
FLL - FIRST LEGO LEAGUE
FIRST ROBOTICS has two Elementary levels, The FLL explore level and the fll challenge level.
The FLL explore level is about introducing STEM to kindergarten through third graders. More of a showcase than a competition. ALL teams at this level do research and build a Lego diorama based around a theme, then individual teams customize it and make it their own. ALL Teams involved in the showcase, spend time doing various STEM activities and are presented with a team award at the end.
THE FLL challenge level introduces competition with the lego stem project. Team are given a list of “missions” to do on an LEGO obstacle course. The team constructs a robot out of legos to run through the course. Teams are introducing to programming their robots to navigate through the obstacles and accomplish tasks for points. So teams are competing to get the highest score on their runs.
special events / workshops
IAf robotics involves itself within the community by participating in various events demonstrating our robots and introducing people to STEM. Our school also gets our students involved with stem workshops and camps when possible.
